31’642’218 pigs lived in Austria, Switzerland and Germany combined, if we trust the numbers of the statistical ministries. I recently saw that governments release the numbers of farm-animals in a country.
I wanted to check if the stereotype of Switzerland as a country of cows is correct. In Austria there are even more cows per person, so it doesn’t seem to be too bad.
I also included the number of slaughtered animals and it was quite interesting. Switzerland and Austria don’t seem to slaughter their animals themselves, but leave it to people in other countries like Germany. There nearly 60 Million pigs are slaughtered every year, which is a big number, taking into account the population of about 80 millions.
I wanted to include the number of farm-birds like chickens, but there were just available for Switzerland. 688’722’000 got slaughtered in Germany and 65’421’680 in Switzerland
